Colleen O'Neil builds learning and leadership systems that hold up under real-world complexity. With over 30 years in education, she has worked from nearly every seat at the table: classroom teacher, district and state public education leader, Chief Human Resource Officer, Chief Learning Officer, instructional designer, and graduate faculty. That range is what sets her apart. She doesn't just design a course or write a policy. She understands how the people, systems, and regulations around it will actually respond.
She founded CKID Consulting in 2001, and since then has partnered with an unusually wide range of clients, from cryptocurrency companies to K-12 school districts, state education and government agencies, and the Department of Homeland Security. Across that work, she has designed more than 200 courses and learning pathways for both in-person and online delivery, each one built to fit the regulatory and operational reality of the organization it serves.
For over a decade, Colleen led Colorado's nationally recognized Division of Educator Talent at the Colorado Department of Education, overseeing educator recruitment, preparation, licensing and enforcement, effectiveness, and early childhood workforce development statewide. That work sits at the intersection of policy and people, and it shaped how she approaches every engagement since: start with the human capital reality, then build the systems around it.
Her path into education started in a middle and high school English classroom, and it's a foundation she still draws on. From there, her career moved fluidly between public and corporate education, including a role as Chief Learning Officer for an eLearning company, where she helped strengthen educational and performance systems for NASA and the Department of Defense.
Colleen speaks often on human capital modeling, employee well-being, and what it actually takes to build a work or learning environment where people thrive rather than just get by. It's the throughline across every sector she's worked in: strong systems are built around real people, not the other way around.
